Palazzo del Principe (XVII century)

The villa overlooks Este from the top of a hill: it was built at the behest of the Contarini Family, perhaps based on the design of the great architect Vincenzo Scamozzi, and owes its name to a historical fact: the election as Doge of Alvise Contarini, which occurred while the nobleman was in the residence in Este. Altered in the following centuries, the villa is located in the centre of a large courtyard paved in trachyte and presents itself as a quadrangular block with façades preceded by staircases. Internally, the central hall has a Greek cross layout and the ceiling is vaulted. Completing the complex are cottages and a small chapel.
