Rocca di Ponte di Torre (sec. XII-XIV-XV).

The Rocca di Ponte di Torre in Este, that for centuries defended the old walled city from threats coming from the Veronese, stands on the side of the Frassine River and is one of the few surviving medieval defensive structures in the territory. It was part of the extensive system of fortified outposts erected in the period between the XII and XIII centuries and conveniently placed in defence of the access roads to Este. Probably destroyed during the raids of Ezzelino da Romano and subsequently occupied by the Scaligeri, the Rocca della Torre fortress was rebuilt in its present form at the behest of the Carraresi in the mid fourteenth century. The Venetians erected the one-floor structure reaching 24 metres in height. In 1597 the building, having lost its military functions, was transferred from Venice to the City of Este.
